A sampling of Amber Schaberg’s picture book, fiction and non-fiction illustrations. Amber’s strengths are in composition, illustrating movement and expression, and wonderful storytelling.
Nativity
Hide and Seek and Tag
This piece is from “The Purple Dancing Triceratops.” Written by Kimmie Gotch, Illustrated by Amber Hawks Schaberg, and used with permission.
This is my favorite piece from the book. I had so much fun drawing a Dino close up and all of the critters and flowers around her.
Dino Valley
This piece is from “The Purple Dancing Triceratops.” Written by Kimmie Gotch, Illustrated by Amber Hawks Schaberg, and used with permission.
This story focussed around a group of dancing girl dinosaurs. I had to create a natural world for dinos, but the characters had to be pastel and bright for a feminine flavor. I had to find the right “natural” colors for their environment that flowed with the character palette.
The Stuffy Factory from The Turkey's Wishbone
Here, I wanted to show the inner workings of a toy factory. I drew from my experience as a fashion designer, working in an office/factory environment. (Yes, I made it more charming, but just as colorful!)
Dancing Daughter
Page illustration from “No One Has More Than Me,” by Bartholomew Tosch. Illustrated by Amber Hawks Schaberg.
